President's Message

Welcome,
“If you have the deep determination to succeed, you will not fail”.
The above quote is my mantra not only personally but in real estate. In these tough economic times it is very easy to get discouraged, but if you have the determination and the dream to be successful anything is possible. The Women’s Council of REALTORS® can be a source of support not only for the new agent just getting started in real estate but the more established individual looking to take their business to the next level.
The theme for 2010 is
“Encourage the Heart”. At the East Bay Chapter of WCR we see the need to promote and provide service to others before ourselves as an avenue for fulfillment and success. As a second term Chapter President, first serving in 2001, I saw the opportunity to “give back” to the real estate community that has been so supportive to me.
My journey in real estate has been long but fruitful. At the age of 14 I was going to school, working part time stuffing and sending direct-mail pieces for Pacific Plan of California, a hard-money lender. This job was part of a program for disadvantaged youths. I grew up in Hunters Point-Bayview where my great grandmother raised and instilled in me that hard work was important.
I started in the real estate industry in 1979 focusing on financing with high expectations. I joined a large San Francisco brokerage as an agent in 1990 where the broker laughed at my annual goal of $250,000, but I was very serious. I moved to Oakland and worked with a broker who “inspired me” to reach my goals. As my experience has shown, you just need to find the right environment filled with supportive people who believe that you can succeed.
Obtaining my broker’s license in 1993 I opened Royal Realtors & Loan Services in 1994. I’ve seen all the ups and downs in this industry. This cycle has affected me like it has most of you. I've had to scale down brokerage, but I always strive for the positive. This will allow me the opportunity to fully dedicate myself to the goals of the organization.
I have suggestions for real estate professionals who are interested in being successful:
- Hire smart
- Differentiate yourself
- Treat others fairly
- Be in it for the long run
- Teamwork is key
- Plan, plan, plan
- Join WCR and be active in the chapter
I look forward to a very successful 2010
